Gardai praise Tullamore motorists as checkpoint finds nobody speeding

Offaly Gardai have praised motorists in Tullamore after a checkpoint set up in the town resulted in no detections for speeding offences.

In a social media post on Sunday afternoon (December 22), An Garda Síochána wrote: "Great news from Charleville Road, Tullamore, today!

"We set up a speed checkpoint for 30 minutes and were pleased to find that all drivers were fully compliant."

Nationally, Gardai are conducting a dedicated road traffic enforcement operation throughout the Christmas period, which began on Friday, November 29, and will continue until Monday, January 6.

Over the course of last weekend, Gardai carried out nearly 1,000 checkpoints, between intoxicant testing checkpoints and regular high-visibility policing checkpoints.

To date, 170 people have lost their lives in road traffic collisions on Irish roads this year.
