Birr transport options to come under scrutiny

Offaly County Council is pressing ahead with its plans to provide a range of transport options in Birr, including walking, cycling and public transport.

The council is currently seeking engineering consultancy services to assess and identify transport options for the town.

According to the project brief, consultants are to be asked to review the various transport options available in the town, including public transport, walking, cycling, private cars etc.)

The brief also states that connectivity between the areas serviced by the N52 North West and the N52 South East “must be considered with the intention of providing a high-quality transport solution.”

While the successful tender will be required to review the available information, they will also be required to “consider various options” either transport or the optimisation of existing infrastructure.

It is envisaged that any proposal linking the N52 to the North West of the town to the N52 at the South East of the town would be delivered on a staged basis. “Each section would need to stand on its own merits in the event that one or more section of road is not delivered / constructed” states the brief.
