Lions Club donates €5,000 to Spartacus Boxing Club in Tullamore

Tullamore Lions Club made a very special donation last week to the Spartacus Boxing Club in Cloncollig, Tullamore, where local Olympian Gráinne Walsh started her boxing journey.

Lions Club President Larry Fleming joined Gráinne and members of the Spartacus club for the presentation of a cheque for €5,000 from the Lions Club which will be used to nurture talented young boxers on their journey to representing their country on the national and international stage.

Mr Fleming said the donation was given to the Spartacus Club in recognition of Gráinne Walsh's "magnificent achievement" in becoming the first female boxer to ever represent Offaly at the Olympic Games in Paris this summer, and he expressed the hope that the local club will continue to foster even more Olympic talent in the future.

The presentation was made at the end of a special female boxercise class which was organised by Catherine Hooper from 'Punchfit with Catherine' to raise funds for Offaly Dóchas.

In a Facebook post, 'Punchfit with Catherine' thanked Tullamore Lions Club for their generous donation to Spartacus Boxing Club, and also paid tribute to Gráinne Walsh for all her "support and help to Spartacus and to her home town of Tullamore."
