Community support celebrated at volunteer recognition event
Offaly Volunteer Centre and Offaly Local Development Company joined forces last weekend to host an event recognising the invaluable contributions of volunteers and local organisations.
"Volunteering is a unique form of collegiality, and this celebration exemplifies the power of working together for the greater good," said Offaly Volunteer Centre Manager Deirdre Fox.
"Especially at this time, when the spirit of generosity is at its peak, recognising the efforts of those who selflessly contribute to their communities in The Faithful County becomes even more meaningful."
The get-together was hosted at Mucklagh Community Centre on Saturday, November 23. Attendees from many organisations—such as Moneygall Development Association, Eden FM, Irish Girl Guides, Ballycumber Defib. Group and many more—were treated to a dinner, fostering conversations and laughter as everyone came together to share their experiences and stories.
Offaly Local Development Company Social Inclusion Team Leader Louise Larkin noted the importance of recognising volunteers' efforts.
"We believe that saluting volunteers and organisations both acknowledges their efforts, and highlights the importance of civic participation. What better place to do it than right in the heart of the village of Mucklagh? This venue is perfectly suited for occasions that bring people together—just like as we encourage in the work we do ourselves.
“The gift of contributing to one's local area is immeasurable, and we are proud to play a part in celebrating these selfless individuals," she added
A highlight of the event was the presentation of specially commissioned brooches and certificates to the volunteers, which served as a token of gratitude for their tireless efforts and dedication.
Offaly Volunteer Centre Board Chairperson Dympna Bracken said: "We believe in the power of acknowledging the selfless efforts of volunteers who contribute so much to the well-being of our local areas.
"It's a win-win situation for everyone involved—simple as that. From Edenderry to Moneygall, Ballycumber to Kilclonfert, Tullamore to Birr—at the end of the day, Uíbh Fhailí Abú!”
Ms Fox said that the collaborative efforts of Offaly Volunteer Centre and Offaly Local Development Company not only recognised the volunteers, but also highlighted the importance of community bonds and the impact of collective action on society.
“As Louise and I reflect on the afternoon, it is evident that this alliance between Offaly Volunteer Centre and Offaly Local Development Company has set a precedent for future endeavours, demonstrating that when county organisations come together, our locality flourishes, and the joy of giving is truly amplified. Here’s to many more," she said.
Offaly Volunteer Centre matches individuals and groups interested in volunteering with appropriate volunteering opportunities.
