Tullamore centre connects students and businesses at work experience expo

Tullamore Further Education and Training (FET) Centre recently hosted a successful 'Work Experience Expo' where business owners from Offaly got an opportunity to meet with Level 5 QQI students who were looking for work experience.

Tullamore FET Centre has over 30 full-time post Leaving Cert courses designed to progress students into the workplace or university.

These students all do work experience as part of their programmes of study and specialise in areas like business, healthcare, childcare, hospitality, science, engineering, computing and art.

The expo, held last week, proved fruitful for local businesses who networked with students and showed a willingness to get involved in the work experience elements of their courses.

The companies involved were: Allpro Recruitment, Local Enterprise Office Offaly, Nelipak Health Care Packaging, Milne O’Dwyer Accounting, County Arms Birr, Family Carers Ireland, Comfort Homecare and Mersus Technologies.

Andrea Scally of Allpro Recruitment gave a highly useful talk on what employers look for in an employee, and Michelle Conroy of Laois and Offaly Education and Training Board (LOETB) hosted a workshop on dressing to impress at an interview.

In addition, Mersus Technologies displayed some of their ground breaking virtual reality technology and made long-term links with the computer students.

Tullamore FET Centre said the day was successful for both employers and students. Allpro Recruitment thought it was an "excellent opportunity to meet future employees" and to convey to students future skills needs in the workplace.

Principal Irene Togher of Tullamore FET Centre said, "It is a wonderful opportunity for employers to see what we do here and to network with potential employees. It will be a yearly event now and we hope it will be even bigger and better next year. We encourage all employers in Offaly to get involved. They won't regret it."

LOETB Tullamore Further Education and Training Centre is currently accepting applications for courses starting in September 2025, through its website: www.TullamoreFETC.ie
