Offaly Down Syndrome Christmas single now online

A heart-warming Christmas single recorded by a group of Offaly singers with Down Syndrome accompanied by Simon Casey can now be streamed.

The group, aged nine to 54, recorded an emotional rendition of John Lennon’s Happy Xmas (War is Over).

The aim of the project by Offaly Down Syndrome Association is to shine a spotlight on the talent, potential, and career opportunities for people with Down syndrome.

The music video aims to showcase the abilities and contributions of individuals with Down Syndrome, raising awareness about the importance of inclusivity and the opportunities available for them in the workplace. By participating in this creative project, the performers demonstrate their skills and dedication, sending a powerful message about the importance of meaningful employment and the diverse career paths that are available to people with Down syndrome.

"We're thrilled to have Simon Casey on board for this project," said Robbie Donnelly, Branch Administrator of Offaly Down Syndrome.

"The music video is not just a celebration of the festive season but a reminder of the incredible potential that individuals with Down Syndrome have to offer. Our aim is to challenge stereotypes, raise awareness, and encourage employers to consider the many skills that people with Down Syndrome bring to the workplace.

We would love for Irish radio stations to put our single on their Christmas playlists also to spread the joy this festive season.”

The music video is now available to watch on YouTube. From December 1, the single will be available on Spotify. Everyone is encouraged to view, share, and support this initiative to promote career opportunities and celebrate the achievements of people with Down Syndrome.
