Clodiagh Gaels granted permission for extension
Clodiagh Gaels GAA Club has been granted planning permission for a single storey extension to their existing clubhouse and dressing room facilities in the Offaly village of Killeigh.
The proposed extension, to the east side of the existing bulding will incorporate a new kitchenette, meeting room and main entrance corridor. A new entrance canopy to the main entrance will feature standing columns painted in the club colours of blue and yellow.
A new timber truss roof is also provided for, along with a new timber pergola at the secondary front entrance to the building.
Refurbishment works will consist of the replacement of all existing windows; new shower facilities; a new referee changing area and a new entrance/exit to the rear of the existing building for player use.
A new insulated render system is to be applied to the entire building as part of the plan to meet energy requirements.
The planning report from MCOH Architects in Portlaoise which was prepared as part of the planning application stated that the GAA clubhouse in Killeigh has seen an increase in usage since the amalagamation of Killeigh gAA and Killurin GAA to form Clodiagh Gaels in 2015.
The report added that there had also been “a demand for better facilities” to bring the existing 1980s building up to date with “current building regulations and energy requirements.”
The current clubhouse is located on a key 7.4 acre site just off the L2001 in the village of Killeigh, in close proximity to St. Patrick's Catholic Church and carpark and across the road from Killeigh National School.
Offaly County Council has granted planning permission for the project to Clodiagh Gaels GAA club subject to three conditions, including that the construction site be securely fenced along its perimeter for the duration of the works; that no surface water be allowed flow onto the public roadway; and that any damage to roads or footpaths be made good to the satisfaction of the District Engineer.
The council planners have also stipulated that the roof of the building must be black, dark grey or blue/black in colour, and that the colour of the ridge tiles must match the colours of the roof.
