Offaly native Conor Doolan receives his award from Chief Executive of Iarnród Éireann, Jim Meade

Two Offaly rail workers recognised for customer service at Dublin awards event

Two Offaly Irish Rail workers were among those honoured at the second annual Iarnród Éireann Customer Experience awards held in Dublin's Aviva Stadium earlier this month.

The awards event is designed to recognise excellence in all aspects of service provided to rail customers. Workers were nominated by their peers and this year's event also featured a People’s Choice Award, in which nominations came from customers.

Offaly native Conor Doolan is Iarnród Éireann’s Apprentice Development Executive and he was a finalist in the 'Customer Experience Initiative of the Year' category.

Conor was involved in a 'Try A Trade' event which was attended by over 1,000 students over four days at the Inchicore Railway Works.

The event was described as "a fantastic way for 4th, 5th and 6th year secondary school students to get hands-on experience in electrical, mechanical and fitter trades, and interact with different areas within Iarnród Éireann."

In addition, JP Moloney, from Tullamore railway station, was a finalist in the 'In Station' award category.

JP's nominator said he was "a great asset" to Tullamore.

"He always puts everyone ahead of himself and looks for the best interests of customers with his excellent customer service.

"He is always kind and always has as smile. After recently moving from another station, their loss is most definitely our gain!" the nomination stated.

Speaking at the awards event, Iarnród Éireann's CEO Jim Meade said: "One of Iarnród Éireann’s core values is, 'Customers at the heart of our business'.

"All nominees and winners here today truly espouse that value and you should be very proud of the excellent way you serve our customers."
