If anyone cannot find a suitable date online for the Tullamore NCT centre, they can apply to be placed on the priority list, and the NCT Authority will try to find a more suitable appointment for them.

The NCT is a compulsory test for all vehicles that are more than two years old. It is conducted every two years on vehicles less than 10 years old, and yearly for older vehicles.

The test was introduced to decrease road fatalities by “pointing out such defects as faulty brakes, worn tyres and defective headlight aim.”

Any defects found “must be repaired and the car must pass a re-test before the car owner will be issued with an NCT Certificate”.

When taking your car for an NCT, make sure that it has adequate fuel and oil when it arrives at the test centre.

All personal belongings should be removed from the car, including the boot. Any car seat covers should leave the seatbelts and clips visible, or the seat covers should be removed.

If the wheel nuts are not visible under the car's wheel hubs, the hubs should also be removed for the test.

The Vehicle Registration Book, registration certificate or licensing certificate should be brought to the NCT centre on the day of the test, and the person taking the car must present their driving licence, or the test will not be carried out on that day.
