Tullamore Community Training Centre launches new Sensory and Mindspace Rooms

Tullamore Community Training Centre held the official opening of a newly-established Sensory Room and Mindspace Room on Tuesday, October 15 as part of Inclusion Week.

The new space was designed by former student Vlad Platin from Ukraine, who has now gone on to study architecture at UCG.

In attendance to celebrate the launch of the centres new spaces were local TD Carol Nolan, and Paralympian Josie Healion, who cut the ribbon to officially open the space.

Former students Connor Kavanagh and Vlad Platin, Board Manager Geraldine Byrne, and Centre Manager Lynsey McCabe were also in attendance to mark the launch.

Both Josie and Deputy Nolan spoke about the importance of inclusive educational spaces.

Many of the students at Tullamore Community and Training Centre struggle with additional needs such as autism, anxiety, or ADHD.

The new Sensory Room, which features dim lighting and soft furnishings, has been designed to offer a supportive and therapeutic environment, promoting inclusivity and enhancing the overall learning experience.

In addition to the sensory room, the centre has also added a Mindspace room which features a classroom, as well as beanbags and couches where students can do their brainstorming.

“We have a diverse cohort of students who may not have fit into traditional education, and they find Tullamore CTC to be a very inclusive environment,” said Tullamore CTC Advocate, Samantha Malone.
