Tributes pour in after death of hugely-popular Tullamore Garda
The Laois Offaly Division of An Garda Siochána have led tributes to their “remarkable colleague”, Detective Inspector Jer Glavin, who passed away yesterday (Tuesday, October 15).
The highly-respected local Garda, who was a native of Cork city, passed away peacefully in the Intensive Care Unit of Dublin's Mater Hospital, surrounded by his loving family.
The Tullamore Garda, who was hugely popular with his colleagues, was described in a touching post on the An Garda Siochána Facebook page as “a mentor, leader and the true embodiment of what it means to serve and protect.”
The late Jeremiah Glavin, who was affectionately known simply as 'Jer' joined Tullamore Garda Station as a sergeant in 2008 from the Garda College, and was promoted to the rank of Inspector shortly afterwards which his local colleagues said was a testament to his “dedication, commitment and ability to inspire those around him”.
Known for his natural leadership skills and his great kindness, the much-loved Garda will be greatly missed by his colleagues in the Laois/Offaly Garda Division who said his leadership and and kindness “touched us all, and his presence will be greatly missed.”
While he excelled in his role as a Garda, the late Jer Glavin was also a devoted husband and father to his wife, Irene and his three beloved daughters, Jennifer, Emma and Ellie, whom he adored.
He will repose at his home (Eircode R35 TW72) tomorrow (Thursday) from 4.30pm to 7.30pm with Rosary at 7.30pm. Funeral Mass on Friday at 12 noon in St. Colman's Church, Mucklagh followed by burial in the adjoining cemetery.
Predeceased by his parents Philomena and Patrick, and sister Phyllis, he is deeply regretted and sadly missed by his loving wife Irene, daughters Jennifer, Emma and Ellie, brothers Donal and Patrick, sisters Margaret and Katie, mother-in-law Ber, sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, nieces, nephews, relatives, colleagues and friends.
