Tullamore for Gaza to hold vigil on Kilbeggan Bridge

Tullamore for Gaza is holding a bridgil (bridge vigil) to mark one year of genocide in Gaza on Kilbeggan Bridge in Tullamore at 6 pm, Friday, October 11.

The local group was formed late last year in support and solidarity with the people of Gaza,

The group has previously held similar bridgils earlier this year, with great support from locals and passing traffic.

Bridgils have been held across the country in recent months, with some towns and counties holding them on a weekly basis.

Tullamore for Gaza organiser Fiona Dunkin explains the importance of marking the anniversary of the beginning of the atrocities in Gaza,

“365 days of genocide. The world has been livestreaming atrocity after atrocity, day after day, and yet nothing has changed. At this stage, we thought that we would be discussing how we rebuild Gaza, its buildings, its infrastructure, its people's lives, hearts and dreams.

“It has now been estimated that over 100,000 Palestinians have died needlessly in this 'war', and thousands more injured. And for what? We think that there is more that Ireland can do. If you feel the same, please join us on Friday.”

Tullamore for Gaza is calling for the people of Tullamore to gather family and friends to show support and solidarity with Palestinians.

Attendees are asked to bring along Palestinian flags, tea lights and homemade placards. The event is family-friendly and open to all.
