Ballinahown village, on the Westmeath border with Offaly

Temporary road closure between Doon and Ballinahown

Offaly County Council has advised motorists using the N62 road between the villages of Ballinahown and Doon that a temporary road closure is due to come into operation next month.

A 2.8km section of the N62 road between just south of the village of Ballinahown and north of Doon village will close for a two-week period next month to facilitate the removal and replacement of road pavement and accommodation works.

Vehicular access will be available for all local residents, businesses and landowners via detour, but the council has pointed out that access from Doon and Ballinahown north of Doon will not be available for the duration of the planned works.

A number of alternative routes have been put in place for the duration of the road closure in order to facilitate the smooth movement of traffic on the N62.

The council has advised that all traffic travelling north on the N62 will divert at Doon to the Northbound Diversion Route, as follows: via the R-444 to Castledaly, via the R-444 towards Moate and West on the R-446 into Athlone via the N62 in order to continue North on the N62.

The Southbound Diversion Route will see all traffic travelling South on the N62 diverting as follows: (East via R446 towards Moate, South-West via R-444 onto Castleday, South into Doon via the R-444 in order to continue South on the N62.

The HGV Diversion Route will be via Tullamore, M6 Junction 8 to Junction 5 and N52 Northbound and Southbound.
