Tullamore's second Aldi store set to open in coming weeks
With Tullamore's second Aldi store now nearing completion, and due to open in the coming weeks, the company has launched a recruitment campaign for 20 open roles across it three stores in Offaly..
The new Aldi, which represents an investment of €10.5 million, will be located on a site at Kilbride Plaza that was formerly the home of the Texas Department Store after planning permission for the facility was granted to Weavermay Ltd, a company headed up by local businessman Tony Flanagan.
Along with 1,644 sq. metres of retail space which will include off licence use, the new Aldi development will include a three-storey 874 sq. metre retail/office unit and a two-storey 281 sq. metre cafe, along with car and bicycle parking and both pedestrian and cycle access to nearby Offaly Street.
The old ‘Texas’ site was purchased by Weavermay Ltd, and Cayenne Holdings in 2018 and was later divided in half, by agreement of both parties, each of whom have different plans for their respective sites.
Aldi has launched a major recruitment drive ahead of its busy Christmas schedule in Offaly, and is seeking to fill 20 new roles, a number of which will be in the new store.
Speaking at the launch of the Offaly recruitment drive, Brian O’Shea, HR Director at ALDI Ireland, said the company is dedicated to “not only providing exceptional products and services to our customers but also creating a rewarding and supportive environment for our employees.”
The retailer spent more than €23 million with six Offaly-based suppliers last year, and now has 162 stores, including a Tullamore store in Cloncollig and also a store in Birr.
