Offaly Association golf classic set to raise over €30,000

The fourth annual Offaly Association golf classic took place on September 5 and 6 at Palmerstown House Estate, Naas, and once again was a huge success with 63 teams participating.

This year's event is expected to raise in excess of €30,000 for the development of gaelic games in Offaly.

The organising committee said they wished to thank all of the participating teams, along with all who contributed by sponsoring a tee box.

The support of sponsors also has to be acknowledged. The main sponsor of this year's event was the Celt bar and restaurants, Talbot St, Dublin, owned by Coolderry native, Noel Tynan.

The main prizes were sponsored by The Bridge House Hotel, Tullamore, in conjunction with Tullamore golf club, The County Arms Hotel in Birr, in conjunction with Birr golf club, and Kinnitty Castle Hotel, in conjunction with Esker Hills golf club.

The organising committee also wish to acknowledge the contributions from Tom Mangan of The Mangan Group Dublin, Loughlin Murphy of Toyota Sandyford Dublin , Declan Glynn, Dorset St, Dublin, Tim Quinlan at Graphic designs and Ed Gowran of JLS Management Corp. New York.

Adam Screeney, Johnny Pilkington (selector), Colm Spain and Conor Doyle, of the Offaly U20 All Ireland winning hurling team attended the Offaly Association Dublin golf classic last week.

A special word of thanks was extended to Leo O'Connor, manager of the U20 All Ireland hurling champions, who, along with Johnny Pilkington and members of the victorious team, travelled to Palmerstown House to personally acknowledge the contribution of the Offaly Association, Dublin.
