LOETB Birr launches three new courses

LOETB Birr has launched three new courses for the 2024/2025 academic year: an Accounting Technician Apprenticeship that comes with a starting salary of €24,765 per year, a Music Industry and Event Management course and a Level 6 advanced certificate in Horticulture which is part delivered in Birr Castle.

Speaking at the Open Day on Wednesday last, Centre Manager Enda Kennedy said: "Our new courses in accounting, music and events and horticulture are tailored to meet the evolving demands of today's job market.”

Enda added: “All three courses are hands on and practical in nature, delivered by industry based teachers, equipping our students with experience and knowledge on graduation”

Dermot Horan, speaking about the Accounting Technician Apprenticeship, said it was “an ideal opportunity to gain an accounting qualification whilst working, that have no fees”. He added: “It is an excellent balance of working with an employer while having LOETB Birr as a an educational back-up for best practice.”

Talking about the Music Industry and Event Management Course, John McFadden said: “The course is ideal for those who wish to pursue a career in the music industry as a manager, promoter or even an artist who want to advance their career to the next level, actually it will appeal to anyone who wants to understand how the complex and interesting industry works”. He added: “Students will organise a host of diverse events from industry talks to music gigs in Birr and the surrounding area. On successful completion, students will be able to write and implement a promotional plan.”

Sean Berrill, the Advanced Horticulture teacher, said: “Our horticulture course is industry-focused, to equip students with the skills needed to work for growers, landscapers, and producers”. Speaking at Birr Castle, where the course is delivered, Sean added: “The course advances the students understanding of plant science, sustainable practices, and innovative techniques. Students will explore pest management, soil health, and advanced cultivation methods, making them a valuable asset in the industry and to employers.”

Enda Kennedy said: “We also have a range of other courses on offer since the Centre opened three years ago, including Legal & Medical, Retail & Pharmacy, Early Learning & Care, Sport & Outdoor Adventure and beyond.”
