Tullamore Gardai raise €10,450 for charity with 35k walk

The Tullamore division of An Garda Siochana has raised funds for Offaly Down Syndrome Association by completing a 35k walk.

The group set off on a journey from Tullamore to Shannon Harbour on Saturday morning, August 24.

As of Monday, August 26, the fundraiser has raised €10,450 – hugely surpassing the original target of €1,000. Overall, the fundrasier garnered donations from over 100 people in the community.

In a post to Facebook, An Garda Siochana later shared an update.

They wrote: “Everyone made it safely to Shannon Harbour. Thank you all for your support and contributions to Offaly Down Syndrome Association. Thank you to Offaly Civil Defence for their help as always, and thank you to James Crombie for the aerial shots and photography.”

Robbie Donnelly, Branch Administrator for Offaly Down Syndrome Association said: “We are absolutely delighted with the incredible effort and support shown by the Tullamore Division of An Garda Síochána during their 35km walk on Saturday.

“The dedication and enthusiasm displayed by the participants were truly inspiring, and the funds raised will make a significant difference in the lives of individuals and families supported by the association.

“This event not only highlights the strong community spirit within Tullamore but also underscores the Gardaí's commitment to making a positive impact beyond their official duties.

“Offaly Down Syndrome Association is deeply grateful for their continued support and is thrilled by the success of this remarkable initiative.”
