Tullamore's Healion bids for Paralympics glory in Paris

Tullamore cycling star Josephine Healion will feature in the Paralympic Games for the first time tomorrow (Friday), August 30.

Healion will compete in the B2 classification in cycling at the Paralympics in Paris, having been selected along with pilot Linda Kelly.

A member of Tullamore Cycling and Touring Club, Healion competes in the women’s tandem events on both track and road, and she is bidding for success on both fronts in Paris.

On Friday afternoon, the 28-year-old will take part in the Women’s B 1000m Time Trial qualifying on the track at 1.12pm, with the final due to place at 3.34pm.

On Sunday, September 1, Josephine will compete in the B 3000m Individual Pursuit - qualifying is scheduled for 10.22am, with the final due to be held at 1.31pm.

The track events will be in the Saint-Quentin-en-Yvelines Velodrome and the road events will take place in Clicky-Sous-Bois in Seine-Saint-Denis.

Since 2023, Healion has combined with pilots Eve McCrystal in international road competitions and Linda Kelly in international track competitions. Healion and Kelly won a bronze medal in the women’s tandem road race at the 2022 UCI Paracycling Road World Championships.

Healion will in action on the road next Wednesday, September 4 in the B Time Trial (7am to 5pm), with the Road Race itself on Friday, September 6 (8.30am to 3.50pm).
