Sprinting ace Keane records two new PBs

Aaron Keane achieved two remarkable personal bests at the NEB Open in London on Sunday last.

Rosemount native Keane, who is a member of Tullamore Harriers, ran the 200 metres in 21.58 seconds, improving his previous best of 21.64 seconds.

In the 100m sprint, Aaron clocked an impressive 10.67 seconds, significantly lowering his previous PB of 10.86 seconds.

The current Tullamore Harriers club 100m record is held by Dean Power, who set a time of 10.59 seconds earlier this year. Meanwhile, the longstanding 200m Tullamore Harriers club record of 21.38 seconds was set 24 years ago by Gordon Kennedy, who placed fifth in the National Senior Championships that year.

Aaron's performances last Sunday bring him closer to these benchmarks and mark a significant milestone in his athletics career.

A son of Geraldine and David Keane from Rosemount, Aaron's extended family are renowned for their sporting ability and achievements.

Tullamore Harriers AC has extended congratulations to Aaron on his performances last weekend.

Also at the NEB Open in London last Sunday, Israel Olatunde lowered his own Irish 100m record with a stunning time of 10.12.

Olatunde of Tallaght AC took 0.05 off his previous national record which was set in the final of the European Athletics Championships in Munich in 2022.

Having collected his third straight national senior outdoor title back in June, Olatunde has cemented his position as Ireland’s fastest man. His aforementioned performance in 2022 saw him surpass Paul Hession’s long-standing mark of 10.18 which was set back in 2007.
