Series of hospital projects planned for Tullamore hospital

A series of significant projects are being proposed for the Midland Regional Hospital in Tullamore.

Correspondence on behalf of Minister for Health, Stephen Donnelly, to Midlands North West MEP Barry Cowen recently outlined details of the projects.

A two-storey 'vertical extension' to the oncology day ward is currently at appraisal stage.

This would provide eight new ward isolation rooms, eight bay treatment areas, one isolation room and associated services.

A one storey extension to the existing Emergency Department is also currently at appraisal stage.

This would create eight consulting rooms, a 10 bed Acute Medical Assessment Unit, an expansion, provide additional triage spaces, waiting area and offices.

Reconfiguration of the Renal Department to provide additional dialysis is at detailed design stage.

This would create treatment space, storage, and two additional neutral pressure isolation rooms.

The creation of a new Cardiology and Vascular Department including outpatient extension is at appraisal stage.
