Tullamore library to hold “Threading Needles, Telling Stories” exhibition

Tullamore library is to hold an exhibition celebrating Traveller heritage and culture through dollmaking.

“Threading Needles, Telling Stories” is an exhibition of 14 three-dimensional hand-sewn dolls made by the women of the Tullamore Traveller's Women's Shed, Chatters and Matters.

The exhibition is a explores the practice of storytelling through doll-making, and is led by artist and doll-maker Teresa Doyle.

The project seeks to explore Traveller heritage and culture in a new way, as each doll allows participants to tell the stories of their experiences as Travellers.

The exhibition can be viewed in Tullamore Library throughout the month of August.

The official launch will take place on Tuesday, August 13, at 6pm, and will be hosted by special guest Oein De Bhairdúin, the Traveller Culture Collections Development Officer with the National Museum of Ireland.

Oein is a writer, activist and educator with a passion for preserving the beauty of Traveller tales, sayings, re-tellings and historic exchanges.
