Ireland were in fourth position after two rounds, following a clear round by Daniel Coyle on Legacy and five faults by Shane Sweetnam on James Kann Cruz.

Ireland required a very low-points round from last rider, Cian O'Connor, but his mount, Maurice, clipped incurred eight faults and leaving Ireland in seventh place.

Kenny, from Belmont, and VDL Cartello, were late calls up to the reserve spot on the team after Bertram Allen and his horse Pacino Amiro were forced out through an injury.

The three Irish riders will now set their focus on Monday's individual qualifying competition, with the final on Tuesday.

Meanwhile, Shane Lowry recorded a second successive level par round of 71 at the Olympic golf tournament at Le Golf National on the outskirts of Paris.

It leaves the Clara man eleven shots behind the lead, which is shared in a three way tie by reigning Open and US PGA champion Xander Schauffele, Great Britain's Tommy Fleetwood and Hideki Matsuyama of Japan.

Rory McIlroy is tied 13th at five under par.
