Plan for major new Birr road takes step forward

Contractors are now being sought to construct a new distributor road in Birr.

Offaly County Council is inviting tenders for the construction of the Birr North Distributor Road, which will connect the R439 Banagher Road to the part-built distributor road to Lidl off the N52.

The council says the new road is of significant importance to the development of Birr and would relieve congestion. It said it would also provide better access to the national road network, open up zoned lands, and provide improved access to St Brendan’s Secondary School.
