Hackett to unveil 'The Reason of Towns' exhibition in Birr

Offaly Senator Pippa Hackett is set to unveil Irish Architecture Foundation’s touring exhibition 'The Reason of Towns' tomorrow (Thursday).

'The Reason of Towns' - an engaging and provocative new exhibition with architect Valerie Mulvin, on the tradition and future of the Irish town - will open on Thursday, August 1 in John’s Hall, Birr.

The exhibition will run until August 11 before embarking on a national tour to locations including Belmullet and Trim in August and September.

Curated, commissioned and produced by the Irish Architecture Foundation and hosted in partnership with local arts and cultural organisations and venues, the exhibition features a series of immersive display ‘characters’.

In addition, the writings and buildings of Mulvin and her practice, McCullough Mulvin Architects, are exhibited through models, drawings, texts, a series of slides, notes, personal memorabilia, building fragments and more.

To mark the launch, a photocall will take place at 6pm in Birr tomorrow. Participating in the photocall will be: Senator Pippa Hackett, Minister of State at the Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine; Irish Architecture Foundation Director Emmett Scanlon; and architect Valerie Mulvin.
