Rugby Sevens team impress in defeat to Australia

A brave display by Ireland women's Rugby Sevens team saw them put high-flying Australia to the pin of their collars this afternoon.

Ireland came out in the end on the wrong side of a 19-14 scoreline to finish third in their pool.

This region was well represented with Tullamore's Megan Burns and Ballinasloe's Beibhinn Parsons featuring for Ireland.

With two of the three third placed finishers across the pools going forward to the quarter finals, Ireland will have to wait for an hour or two to know their fate, but it seems very likely they will reach the last eight - and potentially face another match against Australia tonight.
