Offaly athletes prepare for Paris as RTÉ promise bumper coverage

RTÉ today announced details of its extensive coverage of the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, as a record-breaking contingent of 133 Irish athletes travel to Paris, including many familiar Offaly faces.

Clara's Shane Lowry, who made his Olympic golfing debut last time out in Tokyo, is partnering up with buddy Rory McIlroy yet again, and they have their sights set on a medal.

Tullamore boxer Gráinne Walsh is preparing for her first Olympics, where she will compete in the 66kg category for Ireland, after a well-deserved and magical qualifying in Thailand.

Tullamore is well-represented in the Irish Olympic squad, as Megan Burns and Jordan Conroy of the Rugby Sevens team will also travel to Paris.

Finally, cyclist Megan Armitage will also make her Olympic debut as she competes in the women's road race.

There will be coverage of all 17 days of action across TV, radio, and online following Team Ireland, with over 250 hours of live coverage on RTÉ2 and RTÉ Player.

As well as this, there will be a brand new daily Olympics Podcast every morning alongside coverage of events across RTÉ Radio 1, RTÉ Raidió na Gaeltachta, and 2FM.

Irish sports stars including Sonia O’Sullivan, Gráinne Murphy, Rob Heffernan, Bernard Dunne, and Annalise Murphy will join RTÉ’s Olympic Team

Group Head of RTÉ Sport, Declan McBennett, said: “Rarely from an Irish perspective have we had such a level of anticipation and expectation heading into an Olympic games. RTÉ Sport will be there for the key events, the reactions and hopefully the medal moments as the best athletes we have across so many disciplines not only take on, but match and better the best in the world.”

The Olympic Games will open on Friday, July 26, and continue until Sunday, August 11.
