Lowry leads Open Championship after completing second round

Shane Lowry is the current Open Championship leader after following his opening round of 66 with a second round of 69 at Royal Troon.

The Offaly man finished his second round with a flourish, sinking a 20-foot birdie putt on the 18th role to reach seven under par.

In what were challenging conditions due to the wind at the Scottish course, Lowry can be very satisfied with his superb and assured display.

At the time of writing, Lowry is two strokes ahead of Daniel Brown who is on (-5), but the Englishman had yet to complete his second round. Justin Rose (-4) and Scottie Scheffler (-2) are also among the leading pack.

Lowry claimed a sensational victory in the 2019 Open Championship at Royal Portrush in Antrim, and the Clara native looks set to make a strong bid for the coveted Claret Jug again this year.
