Impressive displays in annual Edenderry AC 10-mile race

Edenderry AC hosted the penultimate round of the Buildmore Offaly Athletics Endurance Series with the annual Frank Kilrane 10-mile road race on Sunday last.

This event also served as the seventh round of the Peugeot Race Series and the Offaly 10-Mile Road Race Championships.

The race is dedicated to Frank Kilrane who is a long serving stalwart of Edenderry Athletic Club, and Frank presented the prizes following the race.

With the final round of the Endurance Series – the Tullamore Harriers Half Marathon - only weeks away, all eyes are on the overall and age group placings.

The race winner, Conor Duffy of Glaslough Harriers AC clocked a very impressive 50.27, with Eanna Ó Bradaigh (Dundrum South Dublin AC) second in 52.37 and Killian Mooney, also Dundrum South Dublin, was third in 53.21.

The top three ladies also had impressive finishes with first lady Heather Murphy of St Michael’s AC crossing the line in 59.35. Dublin City Harriers AC’s Sorcha McAllister was second in 1.00.37 and Sarah Mulligan of Dundrum South Dublin AC was third in 1.01.21.

First Offaly lady was Maria Maher (Ballyskenach AC) in 1.09.41 and first man home from an Offaly club was last year’s winner Mick Fogarty of Ferbane AC in 54.28.

Last Sunday's race saw 351 runners complete the challenging course, which featured numerous hills and short drags, making it a tough test for participants.

Despite the difficulty, the event was well-organised, with ample marshals ensuring smooth proceedings along the 10-mile stretch.

The weather conditions were favourable, with dry and calm conditions complemented by a light drizzle towards the end, providing some relief to the runners.
