Clara resident to host Ice Cream Party fundraiser for Down Syndrome Ireland this weekend

Clara resident Antoinette Geoghegan will be hosting an Ice Cream Party fundraiser in aid of Down Syndrome Ireland tomorrow (Saturday, July 20) from 3–6pm.

The fundraiser will take place in Antoinette's house in Kilbride, Clara (R35 HC66), and all are welcome.

Antionette said her inspiration for the Ice Cream Party came from when her now 20-year-old niece was a toddler: "My husband would always give her ice-creams, and then he heard of this (Ice Cream Funday) on the radio, and started hosting our own."

They hosted several annual Ice Cream Parties to raise funds for Down Syndrome Ireland until Antoinette's husband passed away in 2010.

Since then, there hasn't been an annual fundraiser, but Antionette said that she intends to get it going again.

"It's a great cause," she explained. "And we're hoping to get a good crowd. My nieces and nephews will be there to help out."

A bouncing castle for the event has been kindly donated by Gallagher Event and Party hire, and Baggot's Centra are sponsoring half of the ice-cream, with Antoinette herself providing the other half. There will be games and fun for all the family.

Antionette encouraged everyone to "come along and join in with us to have some fun, as well as raising much needed funds for Down Syndrome Ireland, which will assist them in their amazing work nationwide".
