Tullamore resident releases his debut novel

Tullamore resident Noel M. Lynagh has announced the release of his debut novel, entitled The Calling.

Mr Lynagh was born and reared in the Ireland of the 1940s and 50s, and brings a wealth of insightful experience and contemplation to The Calling, which delves into themes of faith, identity, and self-discovery.

Starting at the very cradle, the book follows the moderately religious-minded Jamie Russell who, at 12 years of age, comes to believe that he has a vocation to the priesthood, and proceeds accordingly.

The boy's individualism and increasing maturity considerably impacts his journey; but his path is completely upturned at seminary level resulting in his resolute decision to quit the priesthood idea and everything to do with it.

Ostensibly relieved, he immerses himself in the vibrant, challenging lay-world of London. Eventually, however, he returns to his spiritual roots and enters a monastery (in England), where, ironically, he finds himself confronting a profound crisis of faith.

Jamie’s evolving understanding of himself and the world culminates in a groundbreaking epiphany that challenges conventional ideas about faith and existence.

Through his story, Lynagh explores deep philosophical questions and offers readers a fresh perspective on the meaning of life.
