Offaly History organising Tullamore walking tours on upcoming weekends

Walking tours of the Grand Canal in Tullamore, and of O’Moore Street and Cormac Street in the town, are being organised by Offaly History over the next two weekends.

This Sunday, July 7, a 90-minute walking tour of the Grand Canal with speaker Michael Byrne will take place from Bury (Whitehall) to Cox’s (Clara bridge).

The walking tour will take in the impact of the canal on the growth of Tullamore. It starts at Whitehall bridge, Tullamore, at 2.30pm on Sunday.

Tea and lemonade will be offered at Offaly History Centre after the walk. Everybody is welcome, and you do not have to be an Offaly History member to take part.

On the following Saturday, July 13, there will be a 90-minute tour of O'Moore Street and Cormac Street, Tullamore, again with Michael Byrne.

This morning walk will be a follow on from the walks in O’Connor Square and High Street last year.

Offaly History is currently publishing blog articles on this (see www.offalyhistory.com for all the blog articles), and it thanked the Heritage Council for its support.

The tour is free and all are welcome to attend. Those taking part will meet at the carpark in the town park, opposite the courthouse, and start the conversation outside the town hall and opposite what was Windmill Hill.

You do not have to book and the walk is free of charge. Everybody is welcome.
