Esker Arts Centre announces summer programme of events

Esker Arts Centre in Tullamore, which has had a busy year so far, today announced its line up of events for the summer months.

The centre's visual art programme continues with The Bigger Picture, an exhibition which opened in June, undertaken by Offaly Traveller Movement. The project challenges stereotypes and negative views of Traveller culture.

July will see the opening of Ceangal/Connections, an exciting collaboration between Midlands and American artists. The exhibition seeks to explore the differences and similarities between the two sister cities, Tullamore and Chandler, Arizona, USA.

And finally for this season of visual art, the centre has a stunning exhibition from artists Arno Kramer and Cecilia Bullo which explores their shared interest in mythology and animal forms.

Last year’s sold-out comedy play The Pension Plan, by John McDwyer, returns to Esker in July, so if you missed out last year, or want to relive the laughs all over again, make sure to get your tickets before they’re gone!

There is also lots of wonderful music and poetry coming over the month with acts John Francis Flynn, Ireland’s longest established string quartet, the ConTempo Quartet, and a wonderful evening of poetry with Terry McDonagh and Polina Cosgrave.

On top of that, Esker Arts Film Club makes a brief return in July with '20 Days in Mariupol' before a full new season launching in September with Baltimore, the story of Rose Dugdale.

To top all of this off, Culture Night returns once again on September 20.
