Offaly sporting heroes Lowry and Walsh catch up ahead of Olympics

Two of Offaly's sporting heroes, Shane Lowry and Gráinne Walsh, had a chance to catch up in Dublin yesterday (Thursday) ahead of their upcoming appearances at the Olympic Games in Paris.

Lowry was an interested observer at one of Walsh's sparring sessions in the Irish Institute of Sport in Abbotstown, and the pair met up for a chat afterwards.

On Sunday last, Lowry tweeted about how much he was looking forward to getting back to Ireland, having not been home for many months.

"Haven’t been home since January 3rd and haven’t seen my girls in over 4 weeks. Get me home, Aer Lingus. Looking forward to the rest of the summer with some huge weeks coming up," he wrote.

Gráinne Walsh memorably qualified for the Olympics at 66kg earlier this month.

She will be joined at the Games by Lowry, who is representing Ireland along with Rory McIlroy, and Tullamore duo Megan Burns and Jordan Conroy of the Irish Rugby Sevens teams.

The Olympic Games will open on Friday, July 26, and continue until Sunday, August 11.
