National Broadband Plan connections now available for homes near Clara

National Broadband Ireland (NBI), the company delivering high-speed fibre broadband under the Governmment's National Broadband Plan, has said over 1,200 Offaly properties in its Moate deployment area can now avail of a high-speed fibre broadband connection.

This area covers the rural surrounds of Clara, Ballycumber and Tinamuck.

A total of 13,000 premises in Offaly are included in the State's 'intervention area', which will see NBI deliver minimum speeds of 500 megabits per second to homes, businesses, farms, and schools.

The National Broadband Plan has been described as the biggest investment in rural Ireland since rural electrification, and Offaly will receive €48m of Government investment under it.

NBI said there are now 1,219 Offaly premises in the Moate deployment area that can join the high-speed fibre broadband network, and it's asking people living nearby to visit nbi.ie/map/ and enter their Eircode to see if they are ready to connect.

It added that there were 2,805 homes, businesses, and farms in Offaly that can order or pre-order high-speed, reliable broadband, with 570 connections made to the NBI network so far.

Network build works are also continuing across Offaly, with works in progress for over 1,300 premises near Mount Bolus, which are due to be connected between January and June 2025.

Peter Hendrick, Chief Executive Officer, National Broadband Ireland, said: "We are delighted to announce that over 1,200 Offaly premises near Clara can now order high-speed broadband services through the NBI network.

"This will enable those who connect to experience the life-changing benefits of high-speed broadband with minimum speeds of 500 megabits per second."

"There are over 2,800 homes, businesses and farms ready to connect in rural areas in County Offaly.

"This includes over 1,300 premises near Shinrone in the Roscrea deployment area. We would encourage people living in those areas to visit nbi.ie to see if they can place an order for a high-speed connection on the NBI network."
