Premiere of Offaly film to take place at London festival on Friday

Independent Irish film A Simple Killing will premiere at the Raindance Film Festival in London this Friday (June 28).

The film, which was written by Mark Conway and directed by Jason Branagan, was funded by the FilmOffaly Short Film Award through the Offaly Arts Office and will see its first official outing at the esteemed film festival this week.

It was shot on location at Bellefield House and Gardens in Shinrone at the end of January this year.

A Simple Killing tells the story of a Vietnamese woman named Mai, who is contemplating the end of her life when she meets the distressed and pregnant Anna who is seeking refuge from her abusive partner Terry.

As their lives intertwine in an unexpected way they discover the ties that bind them together and the decisions that can’t be undone.

Made with a budget of €10,000 this gripping thriller showcases the best of Irish talent both in front and behind the camera.

The movie is the talented Mark Conway's inaugural screenplay to hit the production stage and was directed by Jason Branagan, renowned for his work on popular shows such as Eastenders and Fair City. It's a co-production from Emer Durcan of Western Front Studios and debut producer Mark de Carreau of Five Line Films.

"A Simple Killing is a fantastic addition to the lineage of the FilmOffaly Short Film Award, the team has created a film that is really gripping with high tension throughout, and we’re excited to see the journey it’s about to go on," said Dr Sally O’Leary, Arts Officer, Offaly County Council Arts Office

The premiere of A Simple Killing will take place at King Charles Theatre, Leicester Square in London on June 28 and will be screening in Ireland across a wide selection of festivals in the coming year.

Founded in 1992, Raindance is one of the world's premier film festivals and the largest independent film festival in the UK.

Previous films that have premiered at the festival include Pulp Fiction, Christopher Nolan's Memento and The Blair Witch Project.

Alongside A Simple Killing, this year’s showcase is to include the first UK screening of horror film Cuckoo, with Euphoria star Hunter Schafer in the lead, and the premiere of the highly anticipated Peaky Blinders stage show.
