Nathan Carter to perform behind bars at Castlerea Prison charity concert
The country music legend Johnny Cash famously performed for prison inmates on a number of occasions, and now a country performer closer to home is about to follow in The Man In Black's footsteps.
It was announced today (Friday) that Nathan Carter will be performing a charity concert, entitled 'Locked Up', at Castlerea Prison on Thursday, July 11.
Details of the show were revealed by the Irish Prison Service, which said it would serve as a fundraiser for three good causes in Roscommon and surrounding counties.
These include Roscommon Youth Services, with funds being raised towards the purchase of laptops and/or sports equipment for youths aged between 10 and 24.
Money raised will also go towards the sensory and healing garden in the new Mayo Roscommon Hospice, and towards the purchase of new baby monitors and other equipment for the Paediatric Ward in Sligo General Hospital.
The Irish Prison Service said the concert was also for the benefit of the staff and prisoners of Castlerea Prison, and that it would be streamed on the Prisoner TV Channel.
The prison service released a promotional video for the event, in which Nathan Cater jokes that he's found himself "in a little bit of trouble" and is going to prison.
