Winter vomiting bug outbreak sparks hospital restrictions

Visitor restrictions are in place at the Midland Regional Hospital Tullamore after an outbreak of the winter vomiting bug.

In a statement last evening, the hospital said it is experiencing a high number of patients with Norovirus, also known as winter vomiting bug, which appears to be circulating in the community.

As a result it has implemented visiting restrictions in all wards of Midland Regional Hospital Tullamore to reduce spread of the virus in the healthcare setting.

Visiting on critical and compassionate grounds will continue only. These measures will be kept under review. For up to date guidelines on visiting patients, please check here

The hospital said it apologised for any inconvenience caused and thanked the public for their understanding and consideration.

Also the hospital management is asking patients with non-emergency conditions, where possible, to seek assistance from other parts of the health service such as their local Pharmacist, GP, GP out of hours service, or a local injury unit.
