First graduates of Mount Lucas apprenticeship programme

Family, friends, employers and mentors gathered to celebrate a momentous occasion – the graduation of 26 scaffolders from a Mount Lucas-based apprenticeship programme.

These trailblazers are the first in their trade to commence and complete a two-year Level 5 QQI Apprenticeship programme. Over the course of two years, the graduates travelled to the National Construction Training Campus in Mount Lucas, at various stages to complete eight modules.

This apprenticeship was developed by LOETB in collaboration with industry partners, including the CIF, NASAC, SIPTU, and the HSA. Just two days after the graduation, Sean Cumiskey, one of the graduates, embarked on an exciting journey with his employer and team colleagues to Lithuania.

There, they represented Ireland in Scaffchamp24, an international event hosted by Layher, featuring teams from around the globe. Competitors were tasked with erecting and dismantling structures based on provided drawings, aiming to complete the tasks in the shortest time with minimal penalties.

Cumiskey and Team Ireland achieved an impressive second place in the overall event, outperforming 19 other teams.

They also secured second place in the Health and Safety category, further highlighting their exceptional skills and commitment to excellence.
