Tributes paid following passing of retired shop owner
Tributes have been pouring in following the death of Frank Gorman who ran a popular grocery shop in Killeigh with his wife Liz for over 33 years.
Frank passed away, peacefully, at the Regional Hospital Tullamore on Thursday, May 23. The deceased was a well-known businessman and had recently retired as Gorman's shop closed its doors last March after operating for almost 100 years. Frank and Liz took over the shop in 1990.
Gorman's shop was known to sell everything from sweets, cigarettes, briquettes to the essentials. It also included small deli in store and had fuel pumps there until two years ago.
Frank was a huge supporter of Offaly GAA and worked with Michael Moore Car Sales in Athlone for many years. He was remembered as a great character and a gentleman who loves a chat in the shop.
Dochas Offaly Cancer Support Group offered their condolences to Liz and Frank’s family and friends following his sad passing. “We were all very saddened to hear the news.”
The staff and management of Whiteriver Group, one of the leading distributors of interior and exterior timber products in Ireland, offered its condolences to the Gorman family, saying that they were thinking of them all at this sad time.
The staff of 4Aces FoodService Packaging also offered their condolences, saying that Frank was a “lovely gentleman.”
Frank was predeceased by his brother Seamus, sister Sheila Finlay and grandson Callum. He is survived and sadly missed by his loving wife Liz and sons Declan, Fergal, Cormac and Enda.
Frank's Funeral Mass took place in St Patrick's Church, Killeigh on Monday, May 27 with burial after mass in the local cemetery.
