Minister Pippa Hackett said the extra services represented the Green Party fulfilling its promises.

Offaly set to benefit from series of extra train services

Offaly commuters will benefit from some of the planned seven additional train services on the Dublin Hueston to Galway rail line, which are being proposed by Irish Rail.

The company has published details of the proposed schedule and has invited the public to submit feedback in advance of the finalisation of the new timetable, due to come into effect from August 25

Minister Pippa Hackett welcomed the proposed new rail timetables, saying “The Greens are fulfilling promises to improve public transport, and the proposed new rail timetable on the Heuston/Galway/Heuston route delivers up to seven fantastic additional services for people in the Midlands. The proposed changes are long called for, and it’s great to see that the investment is now being delivered.”

"My Green Party colleague, Liam Walsh, who is a candidate for next Friday’s Offaly County Council elections in the Tullamore LEA, has been actively campaigning for a later train to serve Tullamore and Clara. He started a petition which has over 650 signatures. The proposed 20:30 Heuston to Galway service will provide a later last service from Dublin to Tullamore, Clara and further stops along the route to Galway. This will benefit all train users, especially people working late and theatre and concert goers."

Details of the proposed new services include a new 5.45am Heuston/Galway service (Mon-Fri) arriving at 8.36am in Galway city, a new 7.27am Tullamore/Galway service (Mon-Fri) arriving at 8.58am, a 8.30pm Heuston/Galway service (Mon-Sat) arriving at 11.06pm, a new 9.05am Galway/Heuston (Mon-Fri) arriving into Dublin Heuston at 11.29am; a 8.50pm Galway/Heuston service (Mon-Sat) arriving at 11.33pm, a 10.30am Heuston/Galway (Sundays) service arriving at 1.02pm and a new 1.40pm Galway/Heuston (Sundays) service arriving at 4.14pm.
