Rugby star Robbie Henshaw to launch Offaly cancer charity's fundraiser

Leinster and Ireland rugby star Robbie Henshaw will be coming to Tullamore next month to launch a major fundraiser for the Dochas Offaly Cancer Support Group.

The fundraiser itself will take place in October, and will invite participants to abseil 150 feet from the roof of Croke Park in order to support the local charity.

Robbie Henshaw will formally launch the initiative on Wednesday, June 19, at 8pm in The Old Warehouse Tullamore. The Athlone man has also donated a signed Irish rugby jersey which will be raffled on the night.

A total of 100 fundraising participants will have the opportunity to support the Dochas Offaly Cancer Support Group by abseiling from the roof of the Hogan Stand in Croke Park on October 19. The stadium will be reserved exclusively for Dochas on the day and each participant will be able to bring a number of family and friends to cheer them on.

Dochas said it was absolutely delighted to have Robbie lend his support to the fundraiser, and it thanked him sincerely for being part of the launch night on June 19.

Outlining details of what the abseil challenge involves, Dochas said anyone who signs up will be asked to pay a registration fee of €50 and then fundraise a minimum of €300 for Dochas Offaly.

This sum covers their participation in the abseil challenge on the day, all equipment hire, training with highly qualified experienced and patient instructors, a custom made 'Abseil Challenge Medal' and professional photographs of their abseil from the roof of Croke Park.

The charity will also provide graphics for promotion on each participant's social media page, and a fundraising page will be created to help each person raise the relevant funds.

All terms and conditions will be available on the website www.dochasoffaly.com in the coming days, or you can contact the office on 057 9328268 and talk to one of the staff about the challenge. You can also sign up on the website and pay the participation fee directly through the website.

The challenge is open to anyone aged 18 and upwards.

Dochas representatives would love to meet you at the launch on June 19. You can hear from Robbie Henshaw about the challenge, and there will be opportunity on the night to sign up for the event.
