Huge support for 'Summer Sounds' concert in aid of Dóchas

A packed audience was treated to an evening of choral classics by thee choirs from Tullamore Stage School (TSS) on Friday night last, with all proceeds going to Dóchas Offaly Cancer Support.

With a varied repertoire ranging from ABBA to the Beatles, and including jazz, musical theatre and a number of much-loved Irish songs, the Ladies Choir, Youth Choir and Children’s Choir from TSS provided a wonderful evening of entertainment in Colaiste Choilm gym.

Under the direction of Regina McCarthy and accompanied by Loreta Mackelaite on piano, the performers received a standing ovation, while special guests, Maple Strings, showcased their musical excellence by accompanying the choir on some numbers, while also playing their own sets. The three members of Maples Strings are Eva Barry and Ciara McKeogh on violin and Ellen Godley on cello.

All proceeds from ‘Summer Sounds’ are to be donated to Dochas Offaly Cancer Support Group. The Service Manager of Teach Dochas on Offaly Street, John Conroy, attended Friday night's concert. During his address to the audience, he thanked everyone who made the event possible, and also spoke about the importance of funding in order to continue the work that Dóchas do in providing a wide range of services to the many local families impacted by cancer.

The Director of Tullamore Stage School, Regina McCarthy, thanked all who supported the Dóchas fundraising event, including Joe Rabbette Sound & Lighting; Anna Minnock MC; Fidelma Carroll and Ciara Molloy, Front of House; TSS teachers Aisling Minnock and Chloe Todd; Tadhg O’Sullivan and BOM in Colaiste Choilm for their generosity in making the venue available; Liam O hOistin for all his help in setting up the venue and photographer, Paul Moore.

She also thanked the three choirs from TSS and soloists for the many rehearsal hours spent preparing for the event, and the audience for their attendance and support.
