Cllr McCormack calls for more IDA investment in Tullamore
Cllr Tony McCormack has issued a call for the Industrial Development Authority (IDA) to increase its investment in Tullamore, Co Offaly.
Though he acknowledged the significant contributions and investments made by the IDA to date, stressing that "Tullamore has greatly benefited from the IDA's past investments, which have helped to create jobs and stimulate local economic development," Cllr McCormack emphasised that more needs to be done to ensure the economic growth and prosperity of the region. He believes that further investment is crucial.
Cllr McCormack highlighted several key areas where additional IDA investment could make a substantial impact.
Job Creation and Retention: While the job market in Tullamore has improved, sustained efforts to attract new businesses and support existing ones to ensure long-term employment opportunities for our residents are needed.
Infrastructure Development: It is crucial that a new IDA park is prioritised for Tullamore. Enhanced infrastructure is essential for attracting high-tech and innovative industries. Investments in modern facilities and improved connectivity will make Tullamore more attractive to potential investors.
Support for Local Enterprises: Small and medium-sized enterprises are the backbone of Tullamore's local economy. Increased IDA support can help these businesses grow and compete on a national and international level.
Educational and Training Opportunities: Investing in education and training programs will equip our workforce with the skills needed to meet the demands of the evolving job market. This will not only benefit local employers but also enhance the career prospects of our residents.
Sustainable Development: Future investments should also focus on sustainable and environmentally friendly initiatives. Offaly is a leader in green energy production and is an ideal location for cutting edge technologies. This approach will not only protect our local environment but also position Tullamore as a leader in green innovation.
Cllr McCormack concluded by urging the IDA to consider these areas in their future planning and to work closely with local authorities and community leaders to develop a comprehensive investment strategy for Tullamore.
"Tullamore has immense potential, and with the right support and investment, we can create a thriving, dynamic community that offers opportunities for all," said Cllr McCormack. “Should I be re-elected on June 7 I look forward to working with the IDA and other stakeholders to make this vision a reality”.
