Proud day for Killeigh as keys to new community centre are handed over

Friday last was an important day for the local community in Killeigh, as the keys to its new community centre were handed over to the local development committee.

The multi-million euro facility is the result of a major local voluntary effort which got underway around seven years ago.

Following a public procurement tendering process, local company Allen Kenny Construction Ltd was awarded the contract for the building of the community centre and moved on site in November 2022.

Martina Gorman, PRO of the Killeigh Community Centre Development Association, said the committee was thrilled with the new facility.

"It's fabulous. We're absolutely delighted," she told the Offaly Independent this week.

"We've already had some bookings for the use of the centre. We've managed to come in within our budget, as well, which is really good to see."

The new facility was built on the site of the former Macra Hall, which had fallen into disrepair.

A Killeigh Community Centre 'viewing day' has been organised for members of the public to take a look at the new facility on Saturday, May 25, from 10am to 5pm.

All are welcome to attend.
