A tractor and motorcycle run in aid of the Galway branch of Parkinson's Ireland will take place in Ferbane this Sunday.

Two Offaly hurling legends set for Ferbane fundraiser this Sunday

A Ferbane tractor and motorcycle run will be held this coming Sunday, April 28, in order to raise money for the Galway branch of Parkinson's Ireland.

The fundraiser will see tractors and motorcycles follow two separate routes, both of which will start from Ferbane Business and Technology Park at 12 noon.

Brian Flynn, chairperson of the An Síolán community group in Ferbane, and one of the organisers of Sunday's event, said it is "being launched, or started, by two Offaly hurling legends, Danny Owens and Padraig Horan, both of whom have been inducted into the Offaly GAA Hall of Fame.

"Padraig captained Offaly to their first Senior All Ireland, and Danny captained them to their first and only National League title. Unfortunately, both are living with Parkinson's Disease, and they are delighted to assist in this fundraising effort."

Tractor and motorcycle enthusiasts are being invited to enter on Sunday at a cost of €20 per vehicle, with all proceeds going to the Galway regional branch of Parkinson's Ireland.

The route being taken by tractors for this event is: Ferbane, Ballycumber, Boher, Rashina, Corr Hill and Endrim, before returning to Ferbane.

Motorcycles, meanwhile, will follow a route of: Ferbane, Clara, Delvin, Mullingar, Fore, Castlepollard, Mullingar, Ballymore, Athlone, and back to Ferbane.

Registration of vehicles on the day will take place from 10am to 11.45am, before their departure at noon.

Parkinson's Disease is a progressive neurological disorder affecting approximately 15,000 people in Ireland.

Parkinson's Ireland has a number of regional branches across the country and is heavily dependent on donations and fundraising from events such as this one.
