On Saturday, March 30 almost 100 people walked, jogged or ran Mount Lucas parkrun for its special Easter event.

There were Easter eggs at the finish line for all volunteers and participants, sponsored by Bord na Móna.

There were futher celebrations on the day as Eugene McCabe com pleted his 50th parkrun. Eugene completed his first parkrun in October 2022, having started running later in life when he completed a couch to 5km running programme with Gracefield GAA.

He has been a regular parkrunner since then, completing the majority of these at Mountlucas parkrun.

Speaking after the event, Eugene alluded to the multitude of benefits which go along with parkrun; "My work in social care can be stressful at times so it helps to get out running every Saturday just to get out of my own way at times, whatever the weather and I would encourage others to get involved in any way they can, even to volunteer as we all know we can't have parkruns without volunteers."

He highlighted the welcoming atmosphere at Mountlucas parkrun; "I found everyone involved at Mountlucas parkrun very friendly and welcoming."

Parkrun is a free weekly timed 5km event for runners and walkers that takes place every Saturday morning at more than 2,000 locations in 23 Countries across the world.

Mountlucas Parkrun is based at Bord na Móna Mountlucas Wind farm outside Daingean.
