Drugs valued at €24k found in Athlone parcels
Revenue officers examining parcels in Athlone have seized herbal cannabis and a butane honey oil worth approximately €24,000.
The discovery was made following “risk profiling” with the assistance of detector dog Enzo, the Revenue Commissioners said in a statement today (Friday).
In all, 1.1kg of herbal cannabis and 100 grammes of butane honey oil, a highly potent cannabis concentrate were seized.
The parcels originated in France and were destined for addresses in Westmeath and Kildare.
In another seizure this week in Dublin, drugs valued at in excess of €365,000 were found at a premises in the capital in parcels from several different countries.
Over 18.3kgs of herbal cannabis was discovered in packages coming from USA, Canada, Thailand and Spain, marked ‘kids toys’, ‘kids puzzles’ and ‘tracksuits’.
The parcels were for addresses in Dublin, Kildare, Wicklow, Laois and Northern Ireland.
Investigations in both cases this week are ongoing.
