Local councillor invited to Seanad Éireann to speak at hearing of Public Consultation Committee

Cllr Robert McDermott was honoured to be invited to Seanad Éireann recently to speak at the public hearing of the Public Consultation Committee on the Future of Local Democracy. Councillors from across the country were invited to attend and there were interesting points raised ranging from the format of council meetings, to online bullying, privilege for councillors similar to Dáil members, why councillors are quitting, the difficulty in getting people to run and how this will effect future councils. The topics of the workload of councillors women in politics were also discussed.
