Garda Commissioner to launch mobile phone campaign in Offaly
Garda Commissioner Drew Harris will launch a schools-led campaign in Offaly on Monday to highlight the serious dangers of using mobile phones while driving.
The launch of the campaign, which is being organised by the Tullamore and District Rotary Club, will take place at Scoil Mhuire and Scoil Bhríde in Tullamore.
The Garda Commissioner will join school children, parents, members of the emergency services and trauma consultants.
The safety campaign includes a radio advert recorded by the school children titled ‘Phone down – safe driving’, new pilot road signs in association with Offaly County Council and An Garda Síochána, an eight-week emotive audio campaign on Midlands 103 and a social media campaign backed by pop-band Chasing Abbey and Adam Screeney, Offaly hurler and 2022 Minor Hurler of the Year.
