Ken Smollen Food Appeal fundraising concert in Mullingar
A fundraising concert for the Ken Smollen (KS) Food Appeal is taking place in Mullingar next week.
Some well known figures from the world of music, including James Kilbane, Matt Leavy and Shaunie Crampsey, are performing at the concert in the Annebrook House Hotel next Wednesday night.
The Ken Smollen Food Appeal was founded in 2016 by retired garda Ken Smollen in response to the growing number of families in the midlands experiencing food poverty. At present, over 1,000 local families, including hundreds from across Westmeath, are receiving food parcels from the charity each month.
While Ken is currently out of action due to illness, teams of volunteers across the region are working hard to ensure that those that need help most continue to get it.
In a post on social media, Ken said that “the show must go on”. He also thanked Frank Masterson for organising the concert.
“More and more families continue to come forward and are brave enough to put embarrassment and feelings of shame aside in order to ask for help with food. We have terrific and very active KS Food Appeal teams in Portarlington, Mountmellick, Athlone and Mullingar, all of whom continue to get supplies of food to our growing list of families. “
The show will start at 8pm, with doors opening at 7.30pm. Tickets are €20 and are available from the Annebrook House Hotel reception at 0449353300.
